Title: Sa Artist: Parvyn Composer: Parvyn Bennett Album: Sa Label: Independent The record’s unique blend of Indian Classical music, jazz and pop is incredibly textured and rewards a close listen, and she pulls it apart for us on The Music Show. She has just released her debut solo album Sa which means ‘to breathe’.
She started performing Sikh religious music in her father Dya Singh's ensemble as a child, and for many years was in the Melbourne party band The Bombay Royale. Parvyn is a Punjabi Australian singer, musician and dancer. Shibe joins Andrew from Scotland to grapple with the way that music can reflect the experience of isolation whilst providing comfort and sustenance. With music from de Falla, Mompou, Satie and Poulenc, Camino avoids the obvious musical choices and paints a delicate picture of Franco-Spanish culture and atmosphere. At the age of 29, he’s put together albums of Bach interpretations, of Elizabethan English solo repertoire, of electric and acoustic arrangements from eclectic and eccentric sources, and now Spanish and French music. Scottish guitarist Sean Shibe has negotiated the expectations and cliches of his instrument across his recording career.
